EMERGENCY CONTACT NUMBER UPON ARRIVAL AT ILEA-R

The students may use the academy's main office number (505-347-3130) as their contact telephone number for the time they are attending the academy. The students will be issued pre-paid telephone cards upon their arrival for personal use to notify friends or family of safe arrival to the United States and Roswell, New Mexico.

In addition, the students will have the availability of computers to access their e-mails for further contact with their offices and families.

WHERE WILL WE STAY ONCE WE ARRIVE IN THE US?

Because travel schedules may vary with country, students may stay overnight in Albuquerque when they arrive in New Mexico. They will then proceed by motor coach to Roswell. It is imperative that students choose a rooming partner prior to departure from Albuquerque for ease in checking into the motel in Roswell. Students will be housed in double occupancy rooms at the Ramada Inn (505-623-9440). The Ramada Inn is a modern motel with an exercise facility, a swimming pool, and access to parks and walking paths.

WILL I RECEIVE A FOOD ALLOWANCE WHILE AT ILEA-R?

Students will receive per diem for meals not scheduled to be taken at Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell (ENMU-R) Cafeteria or provided by the Academy, including most evening meals and weekend meals. Breakfast and mid-day meals are provided at the ENMU-R Cafeteria. The Academy will provide breakfast and lunch in the classroom during Saturday classes.

WHAT KIND OF ATTIRE WILL I NEED TO ATTEND ILEA-R?

ILEA-R will provide at least one set of khaki pants and blue knit shirts for the class photo and other special activities. There is a laundry room available at the hotel. The Academy will provide laundry detergent. The Academy will sponsor various activities for the delegates and will advise students about the type of dress suitable for those events. Students may want to bring one set of formal business attire or native dress. Students are requested to wear the Academy-provided uniforms or business casual wear in the classroom.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I GET SICK WHILE I AM ATTENDING THE ACADEMY?

Appropriate medical care will be provided for students who become ill during their stay in Roswell. Because the climate of Roswell is arid, students are encouraged to drink plenty of water to maintain good health. In addition, it is recommended that the student bring enough of their prescription medications for the four-week training period. Often, many of the same types of medications are not available and policies in the United States usually require that a physician be seen before a medication can be prescribed.

WILL WE LEARN ?TACTICAL AND FIREARMS? TRAINING AT THIS ACADEMY?

This is an academic program in which we stimulate the students to think about theories and philosophies of law enforcement management and how these theories can best be applied in their countries. We encourage student discussion and interaction with the instructors on all topics. The students attend seminars and, through case studies and breakout sessions, have many opportunities to practically apply the information discussed during the lecture sessions. Instructors are usually from the Sam Houston State University Criminal Justice Center or Science Applications International Corporation.
