ILEA-ROSWELL PARTNERS

ILEA-R is a program of the U.S. Department of State, Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.

ILEA-R is administered through a Cooperative Agreement with the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NMT).  NMT has partnered with Science Applications International Corporation, Sam Houston State University and Eastern New Mexico University - Roswell to operate the Academy.

NATURE OF THIS ILEA

This is an academic ILEA where we stimulate the students to think about theories and philosophies of law enforcement and how these theories can best be applied in their country. We encourage student discussion and interaction with the instructors on all topics. The students attend lectures and, through case studies and breakout sessions, have many opportunities to practically apply the information discussed during the lecture sessions. Instructors are usually from the Sam Houston State University Criminal Justice Center or Science Applications International Corporation.

Students will also be provided with computer instruction and for non-English speaking delegates, English as a Second Language instruction will be offered during their stay at the academy. These classes are taught by faculty from Eastern New Mexico University - Roswell.

Students should also be aware that there are no firearms, tactical, or fitness training at this ILEA. We do provide access to high quality physical fitness facilities, including a pool, for those students concerned with maintaining their physical condition.

There are some planned evening or weekend extracurricular activities, such as trips to the UFO Museum, Carlsbad Caverns and the Flying J Ranch in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Participation in extra curricular activities is optional.
