Mr. Jack M. Swickard

Jack Swickard worked in the newspaper business for 34 years. He began his career with The Indianapolis Times in 1963, moving to The Albuquerque Tribune two years later as a reporter.

 

Swickard joined the Army in 1965, attended flight training for 10 months, and then served in South Vietnam as a helicopter pilot in 1967-68.

 

In late 1969, he returned to The Albuquerque Tribune, where he was promoted to city editor.

 

In 1974, he was named editor of the Roswell Daily Record. From 1989-96, Swickard was editor and general manager of The Daily Times of Farmington, NM. He returned to the Roswell Daily Record in 1997 as general manager.

 

Swickard served as president of the New Mexico Press Association; President of the Associated Press Managing Editors; a member of the Journalism Advisory Council at New Mexico State University; journalism instructor at Eastern New Mexico University; and president of the San Juan College Business Advisory Committee.

 

He was president of the Eastern New Mexico State Fair Board; a member of the Supreme Court Committee on Judicial Elections; and a member of a joint New Mexico State Supreme Court/State Bar Association committee that examined the state's judicial system.

 

Swickard is recipient of two Distinguished Flying Crosses, the Bronze Star Medal, 23 Air Medals, the Army Commendation Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm.
